Topics Covered: The purpose of the Fourth Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Head and Neck Cancer is to provide an in-depth discussion of the emerging data that underlie optimal therapy for head and neck cancer. A significant emphasis on management of the patient with locally advanced or recurrent cancer will provide a forum to discuss and debate the controversies and practical applicability of the evolving clinical trial findings. The symposium will address the multidisciplinary areas of head and neck cancer care, including pathology, surgery, radiation therapy, induction chemotherapy, and combined modality approaches; multidisciplinary treatment of salivary gland cancer will also be addressed. The emergence of HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer as a distinct subset of head and neck cancer will be discussed. New approaches to surgery and radiation therapy will be outlined. In addition, presentation and discussion of novel targeted agents currently under investigation in head and neck cancer and thyroid cancer will be a major theme because use of these agents will likely play an increasingly important clinical role in the future. The format will include lectures and case presentations, with a detailed discussion of management options.
