Elektra Mou (My Elektra) Ortho transparency and color duraclear transparencies 16 x 12 feet 1994

My daughter, Elektra, died at the age of 5 years, 5 months, of Stage IV (metastasized) neuroblastoma. She lived one year, one month after her initial diagnosis of cancer on August 10, 1992.

This piece is a photographic narrative. It begins with Elektra in a photograph taken when she was well (passport photo) and ends with a another photograph of her when she was well, floating in the bathtub. This represents Elektra coming full circle to a place I believe she is currently in, a place without pain.

I cannot stop my need to help and educate the public on illness and death. This work will continue to be about cancer and its visual expression as demonstrated by a mother who lost her child to a terrible, progressive disease.
