Music in the Air oil on linen canvas 36 x 36 inches 1993-1994
This painting was created during the time my brother was dying of cancer. He loved the music of the jazz greats of the past, especially Duke Ellington and Bix Beiderbecke.
In the hospital room and later in the nursing home where he subsequently died, we played tapes of Bix Beiderbecke's music. The pure, beautiful, and tense sound tumbling from his horn seemed to provide serene and happy moments for my brother. To him, the painting expressed the lilting qualities of great jazz music.
