Mindscape V manipulated Polaroid photomontage 29 x 13 inches 1994

Mindscape I manipulated Polaroid photomontage 15 x 15 inches 1993

In the spring of 1993, I found a lump in my breast and went to my internist. After receiving a mammogram, a biopsy, and several consultative medical opinions, I had a modified radical mastectomy followed by CAF-series chemotherapy.

During chemotherapy, because I was too weak to create handmade paper or use an etching press, I experimented with manipulated Polaroid photomontages, which I could make while in bed.

The "Mindscape" images are my interpretation of chemicals actively moving through me to kill normal and cancerous cells. I drew the chaotic marks on the emulsion surfaces of shots of blackspace.
