Radiation treatments can cause skin changes or reactions in the area being treated with radiation. These skin reactions can cause dry and red skin or a moist reaction. The first layer of skin, called the epidermis, sheds (comes off) during a reaction causing dry or red skin. The second layer of skin, or the dermis, is moist. When the epidermis is shed, the dermis is exposed and it causes weeping. To protect this layer of skin and improve healing, your radiation team may suggest the following skincare routine.
